Eligibility Requirements
Any individual serving 50 percent or more time as an undergraduate academic advisor and employed as such for five (5) or fewer years is eligible to apply. Previous Emerging Leader in Academic Advising or Outstanding New Undergraduate Advisor Award winners are ineligible.
Award
Award recipients are acknowledged at the End of Year Wrap-Up Event in May and will receive a commemorative plaque.
Materials
The award recognizes advisors who:
- Provide excellent academic advising
- Exhibit leadership skills in the profession
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills
- Demonstrate caring attitude
- Demonstrate collaboration with colleagues across campus
- Demonstrate drive for continued professional development
The materials submitted for this award should help support and demonstrate these characteristics.
Applicants/Candidates should submit the following materials:
- Resume or CV
- Statement of advising philosophy and plan for continued development (limit of three pages)
- Four additional supporting letters:
- One letter must be from the applicant’s supervisor or professional colleague at Illinois State
- One letter must be from a student
- One letter must be from a professional colleague
- One letter from applicant's choosing

Selection Committee
The selection committee shall be approved by the Academic Advising Council (AAC). The selection committee will be representative of campus, with preference given to past award winners. Selection committee members cannot write a letter of support for applicants. An ex officio chair will be selected by AAC to facilitate the selection process.
